Inauguration Day

My sister Kathy took her three children to Washington, D.C., to witness the inauguration of Barack Obama as our 44th President of the United States.
Left to right: Sam, Maureen, Kathy and Brendan the day before the inauguration.
The Gesleys stayed at the home of our relatives, the Freshleys, in Arlington, Va. The morning of the inauguration, Kathy and Brendan abandoned plans to take the Metro in to see the inauguration because of the crowds at the train platform and the multitude of cars already full. Maureen told me by phone later that day of the crowds, trains being taken out of service then put back into service and all sorts of other snafus. I assured her, "Yes, but you know all of that happened on Bush's watch!" Sam and Maureen persevered and made it to the National Mall.
While Sam and Maureen witnessed the event in person, they pretty much had to watch it on TV, too...
At least the closed-captioning got the oath right! The Gesleys also got to do some other sight-seeing while in Washington.

Here's Maureen in front of the White House...
Sam in front of the U.S. Capitol...
Maureen and Brendan at the Capitol in what Maureen says will be the DVD cover photo for their Washington, D.C.-based sitcom...
Maureen and Kathy at the World War II Memorial...there's a marble column like this for each state. They also visited the Library of Congress and the National Gallery.
If any of you attended the inauguration and have photos to share, send them to me and I'll post them as well. Happy 2009 everyone.
