The Passing of Sam Jonas
Sam Jonas, the son of my cousin Peter Jonas, died today after struggling for many years with cystic fibrosis.
News of his death was shared on the Facebook page of Matthew Zbinden, Sam’s brother-in-law and husband of Sam’s older sister Jane Jonas.
“Sam peacefully passed away this afternoon surrounded by loved ones. We will post details within the next 24-48 hours for service information,” Matthew wrote. “Sam was an amazing and extremely tough and brave person who inspired many.”
Sam's aunt and my cousin, Jane Jonas Williams, shared this with me this evening by email: "His body was just unable to overcome the strain of infections that he was fighting. He was a warrior every day of his life. He passed peacefully surrounded by his closest family."
Sam was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis as a child and has suffered setbacks at various times over the years. In October of 2016, he was hospitalized with pneumonia and was on a respirator for several days.
Feel free to post your thoughts about Sam and your condolences for his siblings, parents and other relatives either here on the McCorry blog or on Facebook.
