Sr. Mary Benedicta’s 70 years of service in the convent were honored at a Jubilee held Sunday May 21 at the Mercy Convent in Chicago that was attended by several members of the McCorry family.
Sr. Benedicta, Eleanor McCorry, was one of four living jubilarians honored by the Religious Sisters of Mercy: One also marked 70 years in the order; another 60 years; and the fourth 75 years.
Also on hand were Sr. Mary Aquinice, Rita McCorry, and representatives of the four McCorry families: Bud and Jim Jonas; Betty and Joe Mullins; David and Becky Schield; and Brian McCorry.
The celebration started with a mass presided over by a Father Steinmiller, a relative of one of the other jubilarians. From the chapel, the attendees moved to a dining hall downstairs for a fine meal. After the luncheon, the family visited the residence and, in Sr. Benedicta’s room, enjoyed looking through several photo albums and getting caught up on family news.
“We had a great time, just visiting and reminiscing about our wonderful family,” said Betty.
Congratulations to Sr. Benedicta on her 70 years of service carrying on the work of the Lord, including as a missionary in Peru in the 1960s.
